At the risk of starting a flaming session, I am going back to using Vista. To be honest I always liked Vista and was baffled by all the critisism. It seemed like an "Emperors New Clothes" thing to me. I have even seen friends say how much better Windows 7 was for them before it was released (and they would not have had access to the Beta)!

Windows 7 has proved a nightmare for me and I know I could persevere and get it all sorted. But why should I bother. I'll go back to Vista (64 bit) that was working so well, keep an eye out for when 7 becomes stable and fully supports my NEW devices, and make a note not to jump on the bandwagon of installing newly release operating systems again.

OK....off you go, I have my asbestos suit ready ;)

Clingy, what devices dont work with 7 and which version were you using?

If it works on vista, it should work on 7 too.

I use 7 on a daily basis at work and have done before it was launched, I also use XP Mode for devices that dont have a Vista driver without any problems.

Made the jump from Vista 64 to Win 7 64 home. I haven't had any problems all my devices and progs work bar 1. Most new progs' are been released for Win7 anyway. What problems are you having?

I've always said if your system is up to it, ie. 4GB RAM and a C2D, Vista is a perfectly fine OS, on lesser kit however it can run like a dog, and this is where Windows 7 improves upon things as it runs better on lesser kit.

If you have nice kit you'll probably see no performance increase moving from Vista to Win7.

Just my 2p

I'm not pro or against Win Vista or Win 7, I'm a Mac user now :P

Must admit I was gutted when I heard Apple sold out to Intel on the Mac's... is a Mac still a Mac? Are Rolls Royce's still Rolls Royce's? :(

I've heard a lot of positive things about Windows 7, but every time I hear an explanation as to why people are so positive about it I don't understand what the big deal is. For example, someone mentioned that they've been using it at work, well DOS can still do pretty much everything that people would demand of it 'at work.'

At the moment I dual boot XP and Ubuntu on my main machine, Vista on my Laptop, and Windows Mobile 6 on my Ipaq 214... and they all get on great with each other. I don't have any performance issues with them to complain about.

I'm sure there are numpties out there who think that their operating system is tailored to their computer, and that it should just work, but all the members of these forums are people who understand this to not be the case. We know we have to get hold of it and make it work on our computers - and that is the only exciting thing about it, we do it because we can. Yep, we're well 'ard... B)

I'll get W7 when I've got some money to burn... for myself personally I don't see the benefit yet...

I find 7 so much better then Vista for me. Drivers for vista 64 should work fine on 7 64.

7 runs faster and I don't have any problems unlike Vista which was a pain.

as always each to there own

I was running 64bit Vista with 6GB RAM. Went to 64 bit Windows 7

My Samsung 40" TV will not work in 1080p. The whole purpose of the PC is to run Media Centre. I have an X1950 ATI GFX card. Apparently I can install older unsupported drivers which might work....wonderful!

Then I started getting serious corruptions and having to run Windows repair and roll backs. I haven't installed any new software.

Vista ran perfectly on it, and I have never had any issues on the four Vista machines I ran.

Sitting looking at a full Windows 7 version wondering whether to screw up another PC.

Don't deceive yourself Clingy... Inosushi may appear to be gone, that is just the way of the hidden dragon/crouching tiger.

I've always wanted a Mac, but for now Ubuntu does it for me.

There we are, now we're cooking a Mac war and a Linux war all in the same thread - Clingys fault as usual. :whis:

 yeah they dont like people that know things about computers and the stuff that goes off inside them, they prefer the ones that can be easily swayed by fancy looking cases and huger marketting campaign's..

I went onto the site, it said are you tired of spending more time fixing your computer than using it, you need a Mac.

I spend about 3/4 days a year fixing my PC so thats a lot more time using it than fixing it, ergo I dont need a Mac, the Apple site told me so...
