Return Of The Commodore 64?
Moderator: Claw
I was an Atari man, but I believe there were some Commodore boys who for some reason saw fit to try and argue a corner for Commodore... well now they can justifiably boast about something. They've decided to put some decent electronics into the case of the old C64 and have it re-emerge as the Commodore PC64... have a look here.

Awwwh, c'mon... there's always room for novelty somewhere.Myocardial Infarction wrote: What a pointless waste of effort imho. It's a name from the past but the product is just a nettop with Ion2, if it comes in significantly cheaper than everything else then it may have a short life but it's never going to reach the sort of levels that the C64 ever did.
Remember the PC built into a papier-mâché Lara Croft, and other such gizmos that were done just for the sake of showing it can be? The video of a guy gutting a cheesy X-Box and then putting some real kit inside it? There's always room for the whacky and imaginative... that's why there's a

yeah but this isn't whacky or imaginative, it's been done by enthusiasts all over the world with small motherboards as and when new technologies are released. Now these people were whacky and imaginative but now it's become cool to have small and so a manufacturer wants to see if by tagging a brand name onto a modern mass produced product that they can make a buck.
The product is hardly original or a real breakthrough and as I said unless they can come in significantly cheaper than all the large players like the C64 did then it doesn't really stand much of a chance of going very far. In all honesty other than geeks who know about the original name who is going to buy one?
The point of a nettop is a small box that you plug into your TV and sit on the sofa with a wireless keyboard, not one where you have to sit with the whole machine on your lap with wires trailing across the room. Might as well buy a laptop for that. If it's a compact machine your after then something that bolts on the back of the monitor or tv would be better as your going to require a power lead more than likely.

I won't be buying one, but it may be a brilliant PR exercise for the rest of their product range.
We need to remember that the populace at large don't always buy things for rational reasons. There has been a return to the all-in-one unit, and I hope this sort of thing is a move away from practical convention to style. I think it's great when something does what it's supposed to do, but with style.
The one thing to be wary of is the quality though I suppose.
