No matter how much I want to whine about BT, I've been with them for years now, and even though I have had a few problems with the customer service side of things, on the whole I can't complain and I get a decent service.
Even with Customer service, if you know the right numbers to call, and get a decent contact, it's not that bad.

So after having a BT homehub for the past year, bit clunky and not overly user friendly when it comes trying to set up technical things such as port forwarding etc. I've decided to give BT vision a go.
Though about it about 6 months ago, but didn't want to got through the hassle of arranging for engineers to come round to fit it. So now they do a self install option, I jumped at the chance.
After all, for £30 I get a freeview box, a hard disc recorder (80 hours) and the option to get video on demand if I ever wanted it.
TBH it sounded great value for money. so I ordered it up and expected it to be delivered sometime on the 24th.

It turned up early on Saturday and so I opted to let the wife got to Tescos on her tod while I set it up. Quick look at the instructions and I thought I was going to have to go get some extra cables, but soon realised that the package included a couple of gadgets to allow the home hub and the 'V Box' to use the mains ring as a network. Good for up to 2000 Mbps apparently.
So an half hour later and I've rigged it all up and it's updating itself.
Read a couple of reports that the UI is a bit clunky, I'd agree to a certain extent, but it's simple and easy to understand.
Even the wife can use it, and she loves features such as the ability to 'pause' live TV. I( have caught her trying to rewind something she turned on late for though, so have had to explain in simple terms what the machine is actually doing.

On the whole I'm pleased with it. Just waiting to see what else BT do with it. No intentions on using the On Demand stuff, but having said that, it's a lot easier to use than wandering down to blockbusters on a cold wet night.

I've been thinking about getting one to. I mentioned it to Ras the other day. He suggested why I don't move one of my xp boxes into the sitting room and make it into a media center. Where we can network it, to the other boxes. He said that he would do it for me, which he has it took about a hour to sort out the cables, hardware etc. The same for the software. it is still strange looking at windows on a 52" lcd tv. Thank you Ras for the work of setting everything up for his dad.

One of the downsides of BT's V-Box is that there's no way of pulling the recorded stuff of the box onto the PC easily, although technically they're on the network together.
