right, since being a pennyless student bum for the past few years ive not really had any money so have not really been keeping up to date with my hardware. But now ive been doing my internship ive managed to save a few of my pennies and im now looknig at upgrading.

What im after is a decent GFX card, basically i want to be able to play all my games (HL2, BF2 etc) pretty much full whack since that is such a nice feeling and my 9700pro is lagging somewhat.

Ive had a quick browse and there still seems to be a million and one different ati cards (i like my ati's) and im not too sure what to be looking at.

Basically im after a "no frills" GFX card. My only requirements are obviously PCIe, support for 2 monitors and being able to play most stuff. Im not fussed about all the VIVO crap as i dont need it. And also ill be upgrading the rest of the system to be at a similar standard

Any suggestions guys?

Well i just wanted to do the same thing for my media center.

Bought a new silent Gigabyte 7100GS for £30, it scores lower than my radeon 9700 on vista

keep checking here

You want to be looking at geforce 7600 at least to be of a worthwhile upgrade from a 9700pro

certainly worth seeing what they've got bundled, you can save quite a bit that way.
Komplett have a GeForce 6800GS, 256MB GDDR3, AGP, 350Mhz/1GHz. Spot on £150.
Or the 7800 if you can stretch to £170.
But you can get cheaper.

Dabs have a XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB DDR3 PCIE Dual DVI HDTV OUT
for under £100, which seems to be a good deal for the price.
They've also got a Gainward GeForce 7900GS 256MB PCIE DDR3 Dual DVI HDTV SLI, for £130

Prefer ATI?
