Well, here's how events turned out regarding the lorry shunting the car down the motorway.
Must admit, it must have been horrifying for the driver of the car, but just imagine the shock for the driver of the lorry!
<a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/lanc ... 162158.stm" target="_blank">The finale...</a>

Have any of you lot driven an HGV?
You wouldn't even notice the bump as they hit, remember the cabs are generally cushioned from the wheelbase and with a full load on the rear the weight difference would be huge. Like hitting a ping pong ball with a football
The amount of blind spots on an HGV is mad and includes nearly all the front end for several feet surrounding the vehicle.
I'd imagine the drivers bum was going pretty fast when he finally did stop.
Reminds me of an incident that happened near where I used to live in Essex, HGV parked up in a bay besides the dual carriageway for drivers sleep break. Metro with four occupants drove into the back of the trailer at some point. The driver was woken by the police knocking on his door and knew nothing of the incident.
