Raid 0
Moderator: Claw
Hi fellas, been messing about with me comp and went for a raid setup using the onboard controller.
2 x 500gb samsung hdd's used in raid0 partitioned as 350 and 640. Loaded os onto 350gb part.
Vista64
I used crystaldiskmark to compare speed of this with the old hdd I was using. Old hdd was so bad it was a joke.
Sammy's seem great and well quick booting and getting into bf2.
My results:

Well I've been messing about with setting up a Raid 0 using 2 spare Seagate 250gb sata drives
Here is a screenshot of both drives tested individually before raiding them
After setting up Raid 0 with a 100gb and 400gb partition I tested again
![Image](http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alan_edwards/Pictures/testraid.gif)
Now I was hoping for a better result than that![sad :(](./images/smilies/sad.gif)
Before setting up the raid my main OS drive was a Samsung 750gb sata drive and this is the test result on that
![Image](http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alan_edwards/Pictures/Samsung750gbdrive.gif)
Now that is only slightly slower on the Seq test but much quicker on the 512k and similar for the 4k.
So have I not set it up right or is the Samsung drive just so much better on its own than the 2 seagates put together?

Eagle, what are the models of the drives?
Also what motherboard do you have as it can also be down to the raid controller and the block size it set the raid array to.
Mine is on the ICH10R with a 64k block size raid 0, my limitation is the age/type of drives
im going to get some 320gb F1 drives soon which will give it a good boost

The drives are Seagate Barracuda ST3250820AS 250gb sata.
Mobo is Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R rev 1.1
Block size is 128k
Initially I had the drives plugged into the onboard GSata port (purple) but I have now started again and plugged them into the ICH9R ports (orange)
Tested again and now have a better result
I think I'll leave it like that for now and see what sort of performance it gives me over my single drive
128k is huge.....
Either 64k or 32k if you like to defrag often
