Just Built Meself A New Pc, But Having Problems...
Moderator: Claw
Last week finally got up to date with my hardware:
AMD X2 3GHz CPU
2gb RAM
NVidia 8800 GTX
Ive had a quick bash on HL2 full whack and it looks sweet as
But the problem im having is that every now and then my computer will just freeze for a second then will reboot itself. This is definately a hardware problem because ive had it idling in the BIOS and its done it.
ATM im just rewiring it all to make sure theres no loose connections then will try again. Anyone else got any ideas?
Thanks

Got a blue screen today saying its doing a memory dump so im running mem test now (its loading up now but goes Loading.... then just repeats @X:1000, AX:0212, BX:CE00, CX:0301, DX:0000 over and over again, thats booting off a floopy btw)
It maybe the PSU but its the one out of my old computer and worked fine, but ill keep it in mind

Try it with just 1 stick of RAM in mate, and if it still does it, take that stick out and try another.Ryanside wrote: Got a blue screen today saying its doing a memory dump so im running mem test now (its loading up now but goes Loading.... then just repeats @X:1000, AX:0212, BX:CE00, CX:0301, DX:0000 over and over again, thats booting off a floopy btw)

not plugging a 20 pin ATX connector into a 24 pin are you?
check memory SPD incase its trying for tighter timings
reset BIOS via jumper
check volts to CPU... current BIOS revision support the cpu?
check that theres no discolouration on power connectors... never know you might be arking somewere...
had a similar problem after i got my X850XT, check theres no little resistors sitting in the bottom of the case.. i ended up with the soldering iron out (damn imports).
oh... n how are you powering the 8800? your PSU support SLI? or 1x PCI-E on the PSU? or 2 molex to PCI-E converters?
how many rails does the PSU carry?
remove any system fans, they might be shorting, also if you've got a spare CPU fan give that a go
what brand PSU?
run CHKDSK!
now i need to rest my head

Ok, ran mem test all through the night. It did 17 passes and didnt find anything so my RAM should be ok.
but to answer one of RS' points:

cant you get adaptors to make a 20 pin fit a 24 properly?
