Tech Help... Needs To Be Simple
Moderator: Claw
I think I'd like to put an SSD in my lap top. Not sure why, just seems like I ought to.
What size is the minimum for win7?
Do I really need one?
Lappy is Aldi special <a href="http://www.medion.com/gb/electronics/Ca ... gn=Rondell" target="_blank">http://www.medion.com/gb/electronics/Ca ... Rondell</a>
also need to learn how to do those TinyURL thingies.

Depends what you are going to use the laptop for, I had an SSD in my Netbook for a while was a 30gb OCZ Agility, had Win7 Pro, Office 2010 and a few other bits on it and it was about 2/3rds full..
Do you need one, well thats debatable, I put one in because I had one and needed the 250Gb drive that was in my netbook for my old laptop that Lau uses.
It makes things faster
Its smaller
Its knock proof so useful if you are mobile with it.
Oh, and tbh I wouldnt touch medion with a long stick..

SSD has a much faster access and read time than standard mechanical drives, but there is nothing in it between their write times.
Their benefits are also related to the overall architecture of the lappy or desktop they go into.
Overall, great for super-quick boot times.

Just be a nutter... life becomes much more exciting, and people won't expect anything more of you...
Had a customer whose laptop had one... when they go, they're gone for good. The gear for retrieving data from an SSD is ~2 grand, and that's only if the controller is duff. If the memory goes, it's time for a new drive. For their size, areClingy wrote: Not impressed with the one we are using

Different people, on the whole, are going to have different experiences with these things I suppose.Trig wrote: I had one of mine die but I wasnt that bothered as my machine is backed up daily by my WHS box..
At the moment, if you don't mind the cash per GB difference, some will base their preferences on what they want, don't mind wasting, and perceived benefits. This applies to both mechanical and SSD drives.
