....got all my gear and booked a test ride on the Suzuki M1800R for next Saturday. Got totally fed up with trying to find a bargain and went to the nearest Hein Gericke and got myself kitted.
The worry I have is this (please don't laugh). I went to the dealer today. They are a big dealer that does Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki. The front of the building at a weekend is thronging with bikers. The demonstrator model sits out front. I've never ridden a bike like this before and my only time on something that big was when I borrowed my brothers Goldwing for an hour. I will have to ride this monster out of a tight car park watched by loads of bikers and I am sooooo nervous .

It's a lot lower to the ground than a goldwing, so make sure you got some grippy boots on and you'll be fine......
Loads of torque. will pull away at tickover..
Decent speed but heavy on the steering.

Oh Dear
I didn't like the bike (M1800R). Tested rode it for two hours and by the end my back was killing me. Bike looks and sounds great, loads of grunt, but almost totally unusable. The seating position is just too weird. Feet are way to far forward and flat bars mean you end up in an extreme clamshell position. At 80 the wind is blowing your feet off the pegs and there is no way you can do more than 90.
Just in case this was a cruiser thing I managed to test ride a Yamaha XVS1300A Midnight Star. It was lovely. Much easier to throw around, cornered really well and was (rather strangely) FUN. Just too small for what I want.
So I am back to the drawing board with not a clue what I want. Still don't thing my back will take a sports bike and really that's not what I am after. I need a bike for Sunday afternoon FUN and the occasional long distance trip, possibly two up. Cruiser or Tourer or Sports Tourer I guess. Currently I'm looking to test ride..
GTR1400
XV1900
VN2000
VN1600 Custom Tourer
VFR800
Maybe a Harley....always said I hated them, but I feel I ought to have a test ride on one. Fat boy Softail is the most appealing (or least repulsive
....my brother said the same happened to him. Set his heart on a Firebird but hated it when he test rode and he ended up with a Ducati ST4.
So looks like this is a long way off happening

The third option is a shopping trolley isn't it ?? Sorry guys... everyone to their own.. but some of those things of pig ugly and no use whatsoever on UK roads.. fine for straight roads in the US..
Variety... the spice of life...
