Me mate Megazone who some of you know is having problems with slow load times in BF2. I thought I would pass his spec by you lot to see if it is glaringly obvious where the problem is.

Intel pentium D 920 (2x2.8ghz) 800mhz fsb/2x2mb cache
Asus P5LD2 se board
Corsair 2048mb (2x1gb stix) DDR2-533 PC4200 mem
Geforce 7600GS 256mb pci express.
All at stock.

He gets in game when me & eagle have got the first flag so about 45secs to a min behind us.

Thanks for lookin.

Could be anything from where bf2 is installed on his hdd to how fragmented it is to anything. The spec he has should be fine.

Just to add to the above suggestions, I would also recommend running the likes of Adaware SE and Spybot, just in case something is chewing on his bandwidth.

While playing the game, I've always dropped my firewall (Kerio) and AV (AVG) from running in the background. In fact I'm going to kick Kerio into touch for the way it messes with my bandwidth - but that's another conversation. What BB connection does he have incidentally?

As has been said also, loading times are affected by higher graphics settings. This was a big thing for me, so I dropped the peg on some settings, didn't really notice a major difference visually, but had improved loading times.

In the past emptying the cache in your My Documents BF2 mods folder has helped solve some issues.

My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

<a href="http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php" target="_blank">Manually update punkbuster</a> before playing - only takes a moment.

Will hopefully join y'all tonight... but don't let that put you off :)

Mine takes minutes to load the connection to a server for the first time, map changes arnt much better, but im putting it down to Vista.

It was really quick with my P4 rig and a pair of old 36gb raptors.

My rig now is x2 4400, 2GB, x1900xtx, 2x250gb raid 0, SB X-Fi

Usually is down to heavy fragmentation.

What HD is he using? This will probably be the limiting factor.
