A question for Hippy tho, the EPG seems to update for a majority of channels but I don't get the likes of BBC2, BBC3 and some of the ITV channels EPG. I'm using the Microsoft EPG wizard but it doesnt appear to be getting all the info. Is there anything I can do to get them all???

Well it's all up and working and I have to say I'm damn well impressed
Although I've still got the Telewest box for a few mroe weeks I've started using it now and the ease of use (for a microsoft product) is fantastic!

If it's not listing the channels at all then you've probably got a weak signal on those channels.
Try using a signal booster and adding new services.
I ended up getting an aerial engineer in because my signal was so pap!
It turned out the standard coaxial gold plated cable i was using wasn't up to the job. He used some cable for a sky box with f-connectors on the ends. Improved my signal 10 times.
You can hook the telewest box up to a tv in socket on your gfx card i think jase! If you had the remote, it allows you to change the channels on the telewest box at the same time.

But surely a signal booster would cause issues aswell since it boosts the signal, Faults in allHippy wrote: Get a descent cable, get a signal booster and you should be fine. MCE is very sensitive to signal quality

Well I've nabbed a freeview box from upstairs that has a signal meter on one of the menus and the signal is fine. The problem with the EPG is that you need to manually add in some channels for some reason in the TV settings! I've now got the full listings showing up even for the radio as well
The only setting I've yet to sort is the aspect ratio of the picture. When I have a TV channel on I have it in extreme widescreen (black bars top and bottom) yet if I switch to my Telewest box for the same channel I've not got any bars at all. I've tried changing the resolution on the display of the PC but to no avail. I can change the aspect from the TV remote to "stretch" the screen top and bottom however I then lose the Windows Media menu top and bottom..... Any ideas?
I presume that once I have the remote I've no need for those Menu bars so it wouldn't be a problem???
Yeah, there's a button on the remote, the 'I' (more) button.
In live tv, right click the mouse which does the same thing, then go to 'zoom'
Mine is on setting 1 which fills the screen on widescreen and 4:3 displayed with black bars either side.
Your tv should be on standard 16:9 mode, not stretched or cinema or wide, just standard btw, let media center deal with all the screen formats. It does it really well on mine, i never have to change it and can always see the bars on the top and bottom.

The TV defaults to standard 16:9 each time so I presume that with the remote all will be well!Hippy wrote: Your tv should be on standard 16:9 mode, not stretched or cinema or wide, just standard btw, let media center deal with all the screen formats. I will have a hunt now for the remote control
Just right click the picture when you're in live tv. Once you've changed it once, you shouldn't need to do it again.
