Now in the past someone would post up saying "I've just got a new mobo and cpu and wondered what video card is best?"

We all then sat back and watched the debate over which video card was best and then 13 pages later ended up in a mess with no real answer. So therefore now that I've just ordered a new mobo (AGP & PCI-E) and CPU (Athlon 64 3800) I want to know if my radeon 9800pro is still gonna be up to the job or do I need to upgrade.

The only comments allowed in this thread are

Video card model

Screenshot of either BF2 in all it's glory and textures, CS Source with same or AAO. All need to have accurate framerates.

So if I then start to drool over them I know I need a new card

Please upload pics in all their glory and full size

Finally.... no Clingy I don't need a new Joystick

No screenies here but what res do you play at thats would be good for starters :D

for CS you'l be fine with the 9800. for bf2 if you dont want all the shineys you'll be fine too.

I did upgrade to a x800 xt pe and I could get almost full everything on bf2 at 1280*1024. thats with an old orig xp 3000+

if you want nice sparklies then you'll beed a new card. Best to get pci-e aswell.

Summilt like a 7900 or a x1800 at a guess been ages since I've looked at hardware.

But then again at your age with failing eyesight you'll be fine on all low and still thing it looks ace :)

Running a 6800GT clocked to Ultra speeds and game 1280x1024

CPU AMD64 x2 4400 clocked @ 2.3 for now.

BF2 details medium 2x AA 2x AF no stutter never below 40 fps

AAO all details maxed out 2x AA 4x AF 55-80 fps

If you wanna spend £150 get the ATI X1800XT from OcUK (PCI-e). I'm thinking about this and selling my 6800 on ebay while it's worth £80+

Or wait for vista and directx 10 to come out.

the 7600 GT offers good bang for buck and also clocks rather well

Thjink with vista and dx 10 is it'l mean new cutting edge gfx card and I no think jase is after spending that much.

Put a 7600 gt in bro in laws machine and it cost 150 a few months back can be had for £88.11 at overcockers atm

Who said that?

Usually 1280 x 1024 or CS Sauce at 800x600 cos the rig struggles with frame rate.

You KNOW I was reading your thread in childish impatience not being able to wait and post the very comment you say I can't post :(

How about Linux?

Seriously though I have spent the last fortnight looking at Value for Money cards as someone broke Jakes 9800Pro  . He was hampered by having AGP only, which makes things a tad more expensive. In the end I have gone for an AGP Nvidia 7600GS which was within his budget and appeared to be bext value at that price. However my "research" did appear to show that the 7600GT was what we always used to call "bang for buck" card (like the 9800pro or 6600GT).

This simple comparison may help

Good luck :)

Well thanks for all the screenshots  useless the bunch of you :P

I think I might well wait to the end of the month and then do the "How much money have I got" and go from there. I've been looking at various games and I have to say I think this winter might see a revival of the PC gaming
