Thought I'd share this pic with some of you, I know some are interested in the War.
This was taken in the summer at Omaha Beach US cemetery. I took about fifty pics in all that day however this one just summed up the whole day there. For those not familiar it's the cemetery that appears in the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan.
If you are ever in Normandy it's well worth spending a day visiting the beaches, very very humbling experience.
There's an american cemetry in cambridge, the graves are one thing, but there's a wall with literally thousands and thousands of names on it, these represent americans who were missing and never found.
Totally amazing and as you say, very humbling
Monuments like the wall Hippy mentioned are extremely powerful things... recently visited the Thiepval monument on the Somme in France - 70,000 names of Allied servicmen whose bodies were never found.. and a similar one at Arras with some 60,000 names on it.
