Old drives with old firmware got into serious performance issues as they got to being full. Later drives improved this, for best results you want Linux/W7 and an SSD that supports TRIM.Nellyboy wrote: What is it I read about ssd's that you are meant to leave about 20% of the drive empty?
If so then what is the point?

You had to leave at least 5% to defragment in Win XP and it was recommended that you leave at least 10% so not alot different to SSD's.Dangerous Bob wrote: Are you not supposed to leave noral drives about 20% empty as well though?
Clingy, the Kingston SSD Now 100 - 128GB looks as though it uses the JMicron controller that had a huge amount of performance issues. Intels controllers have implemented garbage collection/TRIM and haven't got the same problems, believe Samsung and Toshiba and also later JMicron controllers don't suffer with same issues, again in part down to garbage collection.
