I have never been a great ebay fan. Bought a few things. But every now and again I want something and don't mind 2nd hand. But each time I look the going rates are within 10-15% of new. ATM I'm after a gfx card for Jake. We can afford to spend around £60, £70 at a push. So that is roughly a 6600GT. Going rate on a few bids appears to be £65-£70 with a few hours to go (so probably more). I can get new for £75!!!! To me it's a no brainer

I can see the attraction of selling on ebay, but buying?

eBay has just turned into a vehicle for shops to sell their stuff. I rarely find a bargains on anything mainstream and have gone back to the sellers like dabs as that way you at least get the security of knowing it's new and can be RMA'ed etc.
